Brave New World by Aldous Huxley

This came into the public domain last year and I’m embarrassed to say I’ve never read it. I’m reading a section every morning until the end of the month.

Halloween Stories

Posted in Spooky on 21 October 2009 by Sylvia

There are times when Can’t Backspace doesn’t quite fill my needs – especially when it comes to sharing links! They don’t work so well handwritten, somehow.

So I’ve made a blog where I can link my favourite stories.

First of all: a collection of spooky stories online for your Hallowe’en reading, collected October, 2009.

Note: if it’s the middle of the night and you are home alone and tend to get easily spooked, do not click!

This is my favourite. Great use of new media!
The Dionaea House

Do you remember this kids show?
Candle Cove (with the discussed episode on YouTube)

A mundane blog … or is it?
arthur b’s Journal — Entries on 28th May 2002
Click on the “Next Day” link on the left side to continue with Arthur’s journal in order

I really like the matter-of-fact tone of voice on this adventure story.
Ted’s Caving Page.

Another interesting use of media, I can’t see this working anywhere but on YouTube.

This is a confirmed fake but still will keep me up all night.
YouTube – Disturbing 911 call ..

Very precise documenting of a secret orphanage.
The Indian Lake Project
I’m not sure there’s an easy way to read this one. Go to October 2005 in the archives (The Indian Lake Project: October 2005) and then start at the bottom for the initial story, then go forward month by month via the archive links at the right-hand side.

And one true horror story, just to wrap things up.
How creepy do you want it? / The famously eerie tale of nine dead Russian hikers, with all the bizarre details you can handle
